  • In January 2005, an officer in a rural department applied to a larger agency. The process was going well until someone within his department negatively influenced the decision of the prospective department and the officer was turned down. The officer was unable to determine what had derailed his new job. He contacted the ALC attorneys. YPKF contacted the department and was able to get the hiring process started again. The officer has now been able to lateral to his new employer.

  • September 2004 -In a criminal matter, YPKF attorneys represented a member in city court in a domestic violence matter.  As is known, the risk in a domestic violence matter is that ultimately an officer might lose his or her right to possess firearms. We were able to negotiate, and have the court accept placement of the client in a diversion program that will lead to dismissal of the charges when the program is completed.
  • August 2004 - An officer from a local police agency was alleged to have violated P.O.S.T. rules. During the investigation, the officer admitted to the violations. The attorneys for A.P.O.S.T. sought decertification of the officer. Argument was presented to the P.O.S.T. Board by a YPKF attorney which resulted in a 6 month retroactive suspension of certification only.
  • August 2004 - An officer with a local police agency had personal difficulties with reference to credit issues. The attorney at YPKF was able to totally clear up these issues in favor of the officer. The officer expressed the following: "Thanks again. Many people at work have often said that it's great to have the ALC because they back us on criminal and internal politics. I just want you to know that I truly appreciate your time and help with this. I'll be sure and pass it on."
